Dementia Forum X Japan
Dementia is one of the toughest challenges today. Approximately 50 million people are affected by dementia, a syndrome caused by physical changes in the brain that severely affects memory and other mental abilities. It is estimated that 82 million people will be living with the disease in 2030 followed by 152 million in 2050. Dementia does not only affect the patients, their families and caregivers, but it also has a huge economic impact. In 2018, the cost of dementia was a staggering trillion dollars, a figure that increases every day.
Dementia Forum X is a global initiative founded to take action on dementia. It is a day of reflection and discussion between a hundred of the world’s leading business executives, policymakers and other stakeholders. Under the patronage of HM Queen Silvia of Sweden, the biennial meeting in Stockholm gathers key stakeholders from different fields.
Dementia Forum X is going truly global
In 2018 we invited business leaders, researchers, policy-makers and other stakeholders to take part in the first international version of Dementia Forum X, in Tokyo, Japan on the 24th of April. The meeting with high-level participants was organised in conjunction with the celebration of 150 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Japan.
Dementia Forum X Japan was held at the ANA InterContinental Tokyo between 09:00 and 16:00 and included a networking lunch at HE the Swedish Ambassador’s Residence.
In collaboration with Westfield Inc., IKEA and other local partners, our ambition was to offer our Japanese and Swedish participants the possibility to discuss and understand the unique pretext that the two countries share, but also the opportunities for collaboration, development and knowledge-sharing that unites by a long history and relationship.
The meeting, as opposed to traditional conferences, aims to involve the participants in the discussions and dialogues and is a day filled with new experiences, thought-provoking meetings and networking.
Dementia Forum X is an initiative organized by Forum for Elderly Care and Swedish Care International in collaboration with Karolinska Institute, Swedish Dementia Centre and Forte as well as many other partners. In Japan, Dementia Forum X is arranged by Westfield Inc., in collaboration with Swedish Care International and other partners.
